Process Insight: How High-Quality Laminated Nonwoven Fabric is Manufactured

2026-10-19
In the fields of hygiene materials and functional packaging, Laminated Nonwoven Fabric (Extrusion Coated Nonwoven) has become an indispensable core material due to its superior waterproofing, leak-proof, and heat-sealing properties. Transforming a standard roll of PP spunbond nonwoven into a high-barrier composite fabric involves a series of precise industrial processes.
As a direct manufacturer, we understand that every detail of the process directly determines the final product's peel strength and surface texture. Below is a detailed breakdown of our standardized laminating production line:

1. Substrate Pre-treatment: Laying the Foundation for Bonding

It all starts with a high-quality substrate. Our production line supports a wide range of PP nonwoven weights, from 12gsm to 100gsm. Before entering the composite stage, the substrate typically undergoes Corona Treatment. This step is critical as it effectively increases the surface tension (dyne level) of the nonwoven fabric, ensuring that the subsequent molten PE film adheres firmly to the fiber surface, fundamentally preventing delamination issues.

2. Precision Formulation & Plasticization: Ensuring Film Purity

The quality of the laminated layer depends on the purity of the raw materials. We mix selected PE resin granules with white masterbatch in strict proportions before feeding them into the hopper.
  • Dehumidification & Drying: The raw materials must undergo high-temperature drying to completely remove moisture. This is a key prerequisite to prevent bubbles, crystal points, or water marks in the film layer.
  • Screw Plasticization: The dried granules enter the screw extruder, where they are melted and plasticized under high temperature and pressure to form a uniform, fine liquid melt, preparing it for cast film formation.

3. Thermal Bonding & Cold Setting: The Core Technical Stage

This is the decisive moment that gives the product its functionality. The molten PE film curtain flows from the T-die and meets the PP nonwoven at the pressure roller.
  • Silicone Roller & Chill Roll Cooperation: Utilizing the elasticity of the silicone roller, the melt is forced to fill the texture gaps of the nonwoven fabric, achieving a seamless bond. It is then rapidly cooled by the chill roll to remove heat.
  • Temperature Differential Control: By precisely controlling the temperature difference—"hot at the bonding point, cold at the setting point"—the PE film solidifies instantly. This process not only allows for the production of glossy, matte, or embossed surfaces but also significantly enhances bonding strength, ensuring the finished product does not delaminate or crack during subsequent processing.

4. Flexible Customization Capabilities

Based on our mature production technology, we offer highly flexible customization services:
  • Width Customization: Supports arbitrary slitting within 1600mm width, meeting the requirements of different converting machines.
  • Versatile Applications: The produced laminated nonwoven fabric is widely used in baby diapers/pants back sheets, adult care pads, medical protective clothing, and various waterproof/dust-proof packaging materials.
